How do you make Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks from Scratch?
If you’re ever breaded anything, this won’t be a difficult process.
Set up a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
Combine the breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese & salt and pepper in a bowl.
Beat eggs in another bowl.
In a third bowl, add the flour.
Set your bowls up like this:
- flour
- eggs
- breadcrumb mixture
Dip each string cheese into the flour, then eggs, then breadcrumb mixture.
Again, dip the string cheese back into the eggs, then breadcrumb again to really coat it.
Lay the cheese stick on a parchment lined cookie sheet.
After you’ve breaded all the cheese sticks, pop the cookie sheet into the freezer for at least an hour.
When they’re ready, place the mozzarella sticks in the air fryer in a single layer and spray them lightly with oil spray.
Cook for 6 minutes at 400 F degrees.
Let them sit for a couple minutes before removing from the air fryer, so they won’t be too gooey to remove.
Dip in marinara or ranch dressing and enjoy!

How do you make Frozen Mozzarella Sticks in the Air Fryer?
You can use this same cooking time if you buy frozen mozzarella sticks, too! I do it all the time. I cook frozen mozzarella sticks for 6 minutes at 400 F degrees.
Can you make these ahead of time?
I would totally recommend making these up ahead of time and freezing them BEFORE cooking.
If you don’t plan to cook them the same day, then transfer them to a freezer-safe container such as a freezer zipper baggie until you’re ready to cook them in the air fryer.
Don’t cook these until you’re ready to eat them. Mozzarella sticks that aren’t freshly hot just don’t taste as good. You definitely want that gooey, melty cheese.
