Did you know you can cook a hamburger in the air fryer? It takes way less time in than the oven, doesn’t heat up the house, and it comes out deliciously juicy. This post contains affiliate links.

You can also easily turn your hamburger into a cheeseburger, too!

What do you need to make a Hamburger in the Air Fryer?

  • fresh hamburger patties
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • cheese slices
  • lettuce
  • tomato
  • onions
  • pickles
  • hamburger buns

How do you make a Hamburger in the Air Fryer?

I like to use 85/15 ground beef to make my hamburger patties with this OXO burger press.

A stack of raw hamburger patties stacked together

I usually make multiple burgers at one time, but you can also cook just one. I have a big enough air fryer (8 qt Chefman Air Fryer) to hold 4 patties at one time.

Preheat the air fryer at 375 F degrees for about 3-5 minutes.

Place each burger in the air fryer.

Drizzle Worcestershire sauce over each burger.

Cook for 6 minutes at 375 F degrees.

Flip the burgers over and cook for an additional 3-5 minutes, until the internal temperature of each burger is at least 160 F degrees. I use this kitchen thermometer every day to check my meat temperatures.

Check the temperature of your burgers early because air fryers can vary. Your burgers might be thicker or thinner and cook faster or slower.

If you want your burgers to be cheeseburgers, add a slice of cheese to each patty and cook for 1 more minute.

My husband loves a toasted bun, so I will remove the burgers and pop the buns into the air fryer for a minute to crisp them up a bit.

Once the patties are ready, prepare your burgers with your favorite toppings and enjoy!

Toppings for the Perfect Hamburger in the Air Fryer

Platter full of lettuce, sliced tomato and sliced onion

I like to make a DIY burger bar with lettuce, tomato slices, onions, and hamburger dills on a platter for everyone to use. Then I set out a variety of condiments from ketchup to spicy mustard. Other favorites we like are:

  • Jalapenos
  • Sautéed mushrooms
  • Fried Egg
  • French Fries (on the burger)

Tips for making the Perfect Hamburger Patties

A finished cheeseburger with fries
  • Ensure you use meat with some fat (85/15) so the burgers stay moist and juicy.
  • Use a meat thermometer  and check the thickest part of the hamburger patty is AT LEAST 160°F degrees.
  • Air Fryers can vary, so check your burgers early to ensure they don’t overcook.
  • Cook frozen burger patties in the air fryer, but you’ll need to add about 5 minutes to cooking time.
  • Freeze hamburger patties with parchment paper rounds between each patty. They’ll keep about a month in the freezer.

Make Fries in the Air Fryer BEFORE Hamburgers

If you’d like to serve air fryer fries with your burgers, cook the fries first and set them aside in the oven (turned off). Once the hamburgers are done, add the fries back to the air fryer basket and cook at 400°F for about 3 minutes to crisp and warm them up.
