How do you make Homemade Hush Puppies in the Air Fryer?

We are basically making balls of dough and then frying them. It’s pretty simple. You’ll just want the batter to pretty thick, so it’s easy to roll.

First, add corn meal, flour, baking powder and sugar together and combine until it’s completely mixed together.

Next, add the egg, milk, and spices and mix until well combined.

Refrigerate the batter for about 30 minutes.

After refrigerating, roll the batter into desired size balls. I usually roll them in an egg shape that’s about half the size of an egg.

Spray the air fryer basket with oil and place battered balls in the basket. If you have air fryer parchment paper liners, I like to put one down when cooking homemade hush puppies.

If you are using a parchment paper liner, make sure the hush puppies are sitting good on it. I’ve had the parchment paper somehow fly out from under food and get stuck up on the air fryer burner and burn. So, I like to keep a good watch when using the parchment paper liners so it doesn’t happen again. While, they’re good for easy clean up, that little incident scared me.

Next, spray the balls with oil.

Cook at 380 F degrees for 5 minutes. Then, turn balls, spray with oil again, and cook for 5 more minutes.

When they’re ready, they should be golden brown and a little crispy.

Remove the hush puppies from the air fryer and allow to cool before serving.
